Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator David Pekoske was fired just hours after President Donald Trump took the oath of office on Monday and immediately asserted control over the federal government.
Mr. Pekoske was originally appointed to the position by President Trump in 2017 and was reconfirmed to the position in 2022 during Mr. Biden's only term in office. It was reported that he planned to remain in office until the end of his current five-year term, but that is no longer the case.
TSA chief sends memo to subordinates saying he was advised by Trump's transition team that “my term as Administrator ends today at noon ET,” Reuters reported.
The TSA came under fire when it became known that it had: placed Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and Trump ally, is on a watch list called “Quiet Skies.”
Gabbard condemned the TSA's actions in September.
“The TSA has placed me on the Quiet Skies domestic terrorism watch list, which can only be described as the ultimate betrayal,” she said. I wrote “The Harris-Biden administration is now threatening me with domestic terrorism. Why? They see me as a threat to their power.”
Gabbard was quickly removed from the list after many lawmakers raised the alarm about the issue.
