Frustrations Over Senate Republicans and the SAVE America Act

Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) expressed that both President Donald Trump and Republican voters are feeling frustrated due to what they perceive as a lack of effort from Senate Republicans to advance the SAVE America Act.

During an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday, Banks remarked that it didn’t surprise him when President Trump indicated he wouldn’t sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act until the SAVE America Act is passed. He mentioned that Trump often communicates his intentions clearly, noting that the President had previously stated he would refrain from signing new legislation without the passage of the SAVE America Act.

“Although I supported the housing bill, his stance doesn’t catch me off guard. He reiterated a commitment he had made weeks ago, saying that if Senate Republicans aren’t advocating for the SAVE Act, nothing will receive his approval,” Banks elaborated.

He further explained, “Trump signaled that any legislation sent to him must include the SAVE America Act.” He described a recent lunch meeting where Trump delivered a strong message to Senate Republicans: they must actively support his policies to encourage Trump voters to come out for the midterms.

Banks noted that many senators are vocal about their support for the SAVE America Act while acknowledging the challenge of passing it without lifting the filibuster. However, he admitted uncertainty regarding their collective willingness to do so.

“I back the idea of filibustering to ensure the SAVE America Act gets passed, and I believe President Trump understands that. The main point of frustration among our base and the Indiana Republican Party is that they don’t see us actively advocating for the SAVE America Act,” he commented.

Banks also highlighted Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) as someone who is making efforts to integrate the SAVE America Act into the national defense bill.

He concluded, “We need to advocate for the SAVE America Act to be included in the housing bill, in FISA reauthorization, and even in new reconciliation plans. If we can’t lift the filibuster, we should still find alternative routes to promote it. Trump’s reminder to us is clear: we need to engage in this fight, but currently, many Senate Republicans appear hesitant to rally for the SAVE America Act.”
