Police said the 20-year-old driver again attempted to flee from the aggressive truck driver, but the truck driver actually veered into oncoming traffic and swerved in front of the 20-year-old, causing him to drive away. He added to the police station that he was interfering with the incident.
Police told KHOU that the truck driver then got out, put his hands in his pockets and ran toward the 20-year-old driver's car. Fearing for his life, the 20-year-old driver fired shots through the windshield and into the side of the vehicle, striking the aggressive truck driver in the torso, arm and leg, police said.
Authorities told KHOU that the 20-year-old driver, a former security guard, was handcuffed and the truck driver was detained before police were called.
Police told the station that the 20-year-old man is fully cooperating with the investigation. KHOU said the truck driver who allegedly assaulted the victim was taken to hospital and is expected to survive.
“He's our victim, but he's actually a suspect,” Lt. R. Wilkens told the station. “It's a form of self-defense.”
Police told KHOU that no charges have been filed against the 20-year-old and that he and his pregnant passenger were not injured in the incident.
The department said it was unclear whether the truck driver would face charges.
