Ex-Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio out of prison after Trump pardon

WASHINGTON — Former Proud Boys extremist group leader Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes are facing long terms for their seditious conspiracy convictions in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was sentenced and released from prison. wiped off President Donald Trump's sweeping order provided benefits to more than 1,500 defendants.

Rose and Tarrio were the two most high-profile defendants on January 6, receiving the harshest penalties in what was the largest investigation in Justice Department history.

Their lawyers confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that their release came hours after President Trump pardoned, commuted sentences or ordered cases dismissed for all of the more than 1,500 people charged with federal crimes in the riot.
