Washington Capitals and Team USA star TJ Oshie had to return to social media to defend his posts about President Donald Trump during Monday's inauguration ceremony.
Oshie had posted a simple image of President Trump followed by the message “America Is Back” in all caps. Oshie captioned the post, “God bless America,” along with an American flag emoji.
The graphic featured a message from President Trump that read, “Every day, I will fight with all my heart for you.” “I will not rest until we have the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children and you deserve. This will truly be America's Golden Age.”

Well, the commenters under Oshie's post weren't very friendly, leading Oshie to defend the post and his love for his country.
“It escalated quickly!” Oshie wrote to X. “Let me be clear: I love America and Americans on both sides of the aisle, and always will. Yes, even you who make negative comments stink a little. I decided to respect everyone until I prove that I'm not. If it makes you like me, I think it's good to talk to me on the internet, but there's no honor in that. No, and it seems stupid. ”

Some commenters said they were worried about Oshie's daughters during Trump's presidency and that Oshie had time to bark back.
Oshie added, “To those who were worried about my daughters, thank you for your concern.'' “All four of my children will grow up with parents who support them, who tell them they love them every day, who teach them to be strong, and most importantly, to be good and kind people.”

And one person commented that they would throw Oshie's jersey in the trash.
“P.S. To those of you who are throwing away your jerseys…you might want to scratch off your name and number. Remember, the name on the front is much more important than the name on the back. Today and forever, everyone. I love you! God bless you.”
Oshie, a 2018 Stanley Cup winner with the Capitals, has played the past nine seasons in the NHL for the Capitals and is serving as an alternate captain this year.
He was selected 24th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, where he spent his first seven seasons.

The 38-year-old was also a Team USA legend, scoring historic moments such as a four-goal shootout against Russia at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Although the U.S. finished fourth in that Olympics, Oshie was a longtime Stars and Stripes representative on three men's national teams in 2009, 2010 and 2013, and on the junior national team in 2006.
