Andy Biggs files to run for governor of Arizona

On Tuesday, Republican Congressman Andy Biggs officially announced his intention to run for governor of Arizona.

Biggs, who has represented Arizona's 5th Congressional District since 2017, has announced that he will run for governor in 2026 against Arizona's current Democratic governor, Katie Hobbs. Hobbs is first elected in 2022 and is eligible to run for re-election against Biggs in 2026 if he becomes the Republican nominee.

“I am honored to serve Arizona at the state and federal level, and I look forward to bringing this experience back to my home state to help Arizona reach its great potential.”

“Today, I officially announced my intention to run for governor of Arizona in 2026,” said Biggs. said in a statement Tuesday. “I love Arizona, the greatest state in the Union.”

“Arizona has a bright future, but we need strong leadership to reach its full potential,” Biggs continued. “I am honored to serve Arizona at the state and federal level, and I look forward to bringing this experience back to my home state to help Arizona reach its great potential.”

Over the past three terms, Biggs has emerged as an agitator and fiscal conservative, serving as chairman of the House Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2022.

“I have a strong understanding of what our state needs to thrive,” Biggs said. “I look forward to discussing this important decision with my fellow Arizonans as we consider it.”
