President Donald Trump's new Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered all State Department employees to effectively end coronavirus-era work-from-home guidelines and return to working in person at the State Department.
News of the order, which Breitbart News obtained exclusively in advance of its publication, is likely to come as a shock to the entire federal workforce, but President Trump's key promise that everyone must return to work immediately fulfilled.
According to USA Today story After the election, there has been much talk about how President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, who will head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aim to get federal employees back to work. Thousands of federal employees have yet to return to work. Please show up to the office.
“The Office of Management and Budget reported in August that 46% of the 2.28 million federal employees are eligible to work from home, and 10% of them are fully remote with no expectation of regularly coming into the office.” was announced in late November. USA Today Peace reads. “The report, which looked at work habits in April and May, found that more than 54% of people who were able to work from home worked fully on-site.”
Now that Rubio is Secretary of State, things are changing in Foggy Bottom as he orders everyone to go back to work. Rubio was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Monday night and is the only Trump administration official confirmed on Inauguration Day, making it clear that he is already fully committed to the State Department.
The issue has received a lot of attention recently, with Trump, Rubio, Musk and Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, focusing on it. Comer introduced The SHOW UP Act would return federal employees to in-person work as they did before the pandemic. The fact that the problem hasn't been fixed throughout President Joe Biden's administration, even though the pandemic has been over for years, frustrates many Republicans and good government advocates. But that is rapidly changing now that President Trump has taken office, Rubio has been confirmed as his first Cabinet member, and the Cabinet is taking shape. Other members of the Trump administration appear likely to do similar things if confirmed.
