MSNBC host Joy Reid and her guests were horrified at the thought that President Donald Trump's gender executive order could send transgender women to men's prisons.
Mr. Reid was speaking with commentator Elie Mystal about the spate of executive orders that Mr. Trump rescinded after taking office for the second time.
“These are the people who will be hurt and physically assaulted because of President Trump's executive orders.”
“He was very excited about ‘ending diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the federal government.’ What are the implications?” Reed asked.
“So this is obviously a very bad thing. I always think especially about prisoners, transsexual people who are in prison, but according to this, let's bring in trans women and put them in men. What do you think happens to them in prison? ” asked Mystal.
“Yes,” Reid replied.
“It's not going to be a good day,” he added.
“Yes,” she answered.
“So I think this is something that has real implications. There are always obvious challenges to equal protection,” Mystal said.
He went on to say that the order will be immediately challenged in court and that the legal challenge is likely to be lengthy.
“Some people may suffer unwarranted suffering as a result of his actions,” Mistal added. “These are the people who will be hurt and physically assaulted because of President Trump's executive orders.”
Organizers spent no time at all on the many incidents in which biological female prisoners were assaulted and raped by transgender women transferred to women's prisons.
