Matthew Stafford isn't just dealing with questions about his NFL future.
meanwhile Wednesday's “Time Out” edition His wife, Kelly Stafford, revealed on the Morning After podcast that the 36-year-old quarterback played the second half of the season with cracked ribs and lost to the Eagles in Sunday's regional round.
“He got hit in San Francisco,” Kelly began, referring to the Rams' Week 15 win over the 49ers on Dec. 12.
“I remember watching it, [he] I looked toward the sideline and said something, and then I came home that night and was like, “Oh, I think I cracked my ribs.'' “What?” I thought. And he actually broke four ribs, but he didn't tell anyone the details about it. You'll go about your daily life as if nothing is wrong, and you'll feel miserable when you get home. ”
“I managed to calm myself down,” said Stafford, who was devastated by Sunday's 28-22 season-ending loss. According to ESPN.
The Rams quarterback completed 26-of-44 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's loss, ending his fourth season in Los Angeles and 16th in the NFL.
Shortly after the game, Stafford was asked what's next.
“As for my future, it's been 30 minutes since my last game so I'm going to take some time to think about it,” he said. “But I feel like I played pretty good ball.”
Stafford finished the 2024 season with 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions through 16 games.
Kelly, who married Stafford in 2015 and has four daughters with the star quarterback, expanded on the uncertainty on Wednesday's episode.
“When it comes to retirement, I'm in the dark just like everyone else,” Kelly said.
Mr Stafford and Mr Kelly “will have discussions” about their future, but Ms Stafford, a mother of four, said the choice was up to him alone.
“He wants it to be a joint decision, but it has to be his decision, because I don't want him to resent me or anything, and I want it to be completely his own. 'So we're going to take our time and he's going to take his time,' she said.
Kelly's comments Wednesday came two days after she posted a heartfelt message to Stafford and reflected on the future.
“There aren't enough words to express how proud I am. We joke that we're old and tired, but to be honest, when I see you outside… I never got tired of watching my daughters cheering for their dad. I'm not sure if this is the end…we'll see,” she wrote on Instagram.
