House Republicans announced they will create a new committee to investigate the actions of members of the partisan Jan. 6 committee, despite President Joe Biden's pardon on Monday.
The purpose of the panel is to uncover the truth about what happened at the U.S. Capitol.
In a press release obtained by Breitbart News, House Speaker Mike Johnson said the committee will form a select subcommittee under the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.). He said he would install it.
“House Republicans are proud of our efforts to date to expose the false stories spread by the politically motivated January 6th Special Committee during the 117th Congress, but we must continue to do so. There's more to come,” he said.
molly hemingway the federalist reported Regarding the subcommittee's research items:
Mr. Loudermilk led the previous effort as chairman of the House Government Oversight Subcommittee. The subcommittee uncovered 40,000 hours of surveillance footage from January 6, interviews suppressed by the Cheney Commission that challenged the made-for-TV allegations, and interviews with star witness Cassidy Hutchinson. It was announced publicly that Cheney was being indicted for misconduct. Mr. Hutchinson, a junior aide to President Trump, began dramatically changing his story after secret communications with a former Republican lawmaker. Mr. Cheney was chosen by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to run the committee and the televised show trial, and he accepted a pardon for allegations of witness tampering and other crimes he may have committed.
…
As mentioned above, Loudermilk and his staff exposed transcripts of interviews that Cheney's committee had suppressed because they contradicted the story Cheney had created. For example, Cheney suppressed evidence that President Donald Trump had pushed for an increase of 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the nation's capital, and that Trump officials said the White House had communicated its desire for 10,000 National Guard troops. It falsely claimed that there was “no evidence” to support the claim.
Indeed, the transcripts of early interviews conducted by the committee accurately contained evidence from key sources. The press conference, in which Mr. Cheney personally attended and participated, was not made public. The transcript of Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato's first interview with the committee was conducted on January 28, 2022. In it, he told Cheney and investigators that he heard Mark Meadows, the president's chief of staff, press the request to Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser. The National Guard was dispatched as necessary to protect the city. He also testified that President Trump had indicated that 10,000 troops were needed to keep the peace at rallies and protests scheduled for January 6, 2021.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said Republicans need to get to the bottom of the partisan committee's wrongdoing.
“Congressman. Mr. Loudermilk is a leader who will get to the bottom of what the Democratic-led January 6th Committee failed to uncover, and we look forward to helping him bring all the facts to the American people.” “
Before Biden pardoned the committee members, Loudermilk released a report that said he “ignored or withheld evidence” from the final report and “deleted extensive records that should have been preserved.”
According to Loudermilk's press release, the report found:
1. Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney conspired with “star witness” Cassidy Hutchinson without Hutchinson's attorney's knowledge.
2. Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney should be investigated for possible criminal witness tampering based on new information about her communications.
3. Cassidy Hutchinson's most outrageous claims lack any evidence, and the task force knew they were false at the time they publicly promoted her.
The report also claimed there was “evidence of collusion” between special counsel Jack Smith, who prosecuted Trump, and the Democratic Party committee.
