Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) announced Tuesday that she will offer guided tours of the Capitol to the Jan. 6 rioters, who just received a sweeping pardon from President Trump.
“I will be the first member of Congress to offer a guided tour of the Capitol,” Boebert said Tuesday, standing outside the Washington, D.C., jail where some defendants are being held, according to footage from NBC News. ” he said.
President Trump's staunch ally was surrounded by cheering onlookers in response to her announcement.
“President Trump signed a pardon yesterday requesting pardon and release for all,” Boebert said. “But now we have 22 hostages waiting in this prison.”
President Trump on Monday night, in one of his first official acts as president, called out approximately 1,500 “fully, completely, granted an unconditional pardon. A total of 1,583 defendants were indicted.
Approximately 600 defendants on January 6 were charged with assaulting, resisting, and obstructing police. Ten defendants were convicted of sedition, the centerpiece of the Justice Department's massive prosecution.
“They have already put in a lot of time, more time than they should have been paid. They should never have been locked up,” Boebert said outside the jail Tuesday.
“I hope they're gone before I come back,” she added. “If they don't, I'll be back. I want to see them released.”
