Don Lemon is backing former Today host Matt Lauer following his fall from grace in 2017.
The former CNN anchor, 58, remains friends with Lauer after relationships with several women. accused him of sexual harassment and rapewhich resulted in him losing his prestigious NBC job.
Currently appearing on Podcast “Hollywood Row” On Wednesday, Lemon told hosts Dax Holt and Adam Glynn that Lauer, 67, has the potential to succeed in the podcast world.
“If he could go back to digital, I think he could set his own direction. But I only got to know Matt after what happened,” he said. Ta.
Lemon added that fans' reaction to seeing Lauer in public hasn't decreased since Lauer left the NBC show.
“Every time I see Matt out, or even when we go out to dinner, my husband says, [Tim MaloneI] I go out to dinner with him and his fiance, and people love him. The women love him. They're like, “Oh my gosh, can I take a picture?” I love you. I miss seeing you on TV. “right? ” he said.
“So I think the public loves him. The public misses him, but it's just… people in the industry who are afraid.”
“Maybe there's a way for him to come back, but I think it's the people in the industry who are more worried about what happened to Matt,” he added.
The former newscaster suggested that Lauer's return could happen if the public got involved in some way.
“The public…I'll say this: The general public will accept it, but I'm the only one who will accept Matt's return. And people will watch him, and the ratings will be great. I think so,” he said.
Lemon appears to be just one of the few remaining friends in Lauer's circle.
According to reports, Lauer's friendships have undergone a “drastic change” since the disgraced news anchor was fired from his high-profile job.
Formerly close to Mr. Lauer told the people He said he “put a lot of old friends on ice, even the ones who stuck with him after the 'Today' show.”
The source added that while Lauer is living a “pretty good life” these days, her new reality is “completely different” than before she left the show.
