Florida Republican says Trump fixing lack of transparency by releasing JFK files

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) said she believes President Trump is correcting the government's lack of transparency by releasing files related to President Kennedy's assassination.

“This is, as you said, what the president has talked about on the campaign trail, and for decades, quite frankly, there's really no good reason as to why the rest of the files haven't been released. There wasn’t,” Cammack said Thursday. About NewsNation's “Hill”.

“It's no secret that Americans across the country are distrustful,” she continued. “They certainly see a lack of accountability and transparency within the government, so I think the president is taking steps to correct that lack of transparency.”

Earlier on Thursday, Trump signed an executive order directing the release of federal documents related to the three assassinations. Former President, former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

The Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General will present a plan within 15 days for the “full and complete release” of records related to the former president's assassination.

Trump said on the campaign trail that he would release documents to document three notable deaths.

In 2022, the National Archives released nearly 13,000 new files related to JFK's assassination, while both President Trump and former President Biden issued enhancements to the remaining documents.

Cammack said Thursday that the contents of the records have been “lingering” in American society for years and that Trump's actions will help clear up questions about the deaths.

“I would say, let's take it a step further. Let's start releasing the Epstein list,” she said. “That's something I know all Americans are very interested in.”

NewsNation's Blake Burman questioned whether Florida Republicans thought Trump would do so. Trump and the late Jeffrey Epstein had an affair years before the president ran for office.

“He talked about it on the trail,” Cammack replied. “I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he released the Epstein files.”
