Dem NY congressman has idea on how party can fight Trump: ‘I’m optimistic’

New York state lawmaker urges Democrats to return to working-class roots and target “corrupt elites who have been in power too long” to escape political “wilderness” during President Trump's reign We are calling for this to be done.

Since Trump returned to the White House, progressives have grappled with a profound shift in the cultural atmosphere and an apparent leadership vacuum. But moderate Hudson Valley Rep. Pat Ryan expressed optimism that the party is starting to regain its footing.

“We were treated badly by the Democrats in November. There's no two ways about it. We stopped meeting people where they are. We became the party of the elites, and people wanted to meet them where they were.” “I felt that way,” Ryan candidly admitted on Saturday's X.

But he added: “This week we set the conditions for the fight ahead, so I'm optimistic.”

“A core group of Democratic leaders immediately stood up and made it clear that we are fighting for the people and against the same corrupt elites who have been in power for far too long.”

Ryan, 42, was first elected to the House of Representatives in a highly competitive special election, managing to defeat former Republican Rep. Mark Molinaro to win the seat.

The official now claims that Trump gave “a lot of love to his billionaire cronies” during his first week back in the White House.

Ryan highlighted how Big Tech CEOs were invited to the Capitol Rotunda for President Trump's swearing-in after the event was canceled indoors due to frigid weather.

“We hit it right [Trump] For that,” Ryan claimed of the billionaire who attended the inauguration. “But it wasn't just a denunciation of Trump; we tied it directly and forcefully to the core message of corruption.

“And Trump pardoned insurrectionists convicted of assaulting police officers. Beating them with flagpoles. Tasering a police officer until he had a heart attack. Five law enforcement officers dead. . 140 people were injured,” he wrote.

Trump, 78, granted clemency to more than 1,500 participants in the Jan. 6 riot on his first day back in the Oval Office.

Democrats have been reeling since the 47th president won all seven battleground states in November's election, becoming the first Republican to win the popular vote in a presidential election in 20 years.

After Trump's victory, former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris largely retreated from the spotlight, leaving the party without a clear central leader like the one Trump has had for the past eight years. .

All of this, coupled with the perception that Democrats are on the back foot in the culture wars as Republicans lash out at Democrats on transgender and woke issues, is leading to soul-searching within the opposition.

But Ryan pointed to Democrats' early response to Trump as evidence that they learned an important lesson.

“This is a broad cross-section of our party, from every corner of our country, from every background, from every ideology, listening and responding clearly to the American people. From the left, from the right, from the center. Fuck it, we're here to cut costs for you and your family,'' Ryan said.

“Yes, the Democratic Party is certainly not perfect, and we know we have a lot of work to do to regain trust,” he added.

“This fierce, unyielding, unwavering dedication to fighting for the people and against those who harm them, that's the Democratic Party I want to be a part of. That's how we get out of the wilderness.”
