The Djing world last week saw Canadian DJ Dedmau5 go on a tear for DJ 3lau's pals, giving the prospect one of Donald Trump's first parties. However, 3lau has not retreated at all.
On Friday, DJ 3lau, whose real name is Justin Blau, posted on his Instagram account about his amazing experience at one of Trump's first parties earlier in the week.
In the post, the DJ told fans: [President Trump’s] The team needed a DJ for the inauguration so they reached out. Playing Starlight Ball wasn't on my 2025 bingo card, but wow, what an honor. I was so nervous and only played for 30 minutes, but holy shit. The lock has been released. ”
The music producer and Crypto and Blockchain Booster also posted photos from the event on his X account.
3lau is excited that Donald Trump has expressed his openness to the crypto and blockchain industry, an industry that music producers want to develop.
But as soon as he posted his message on Instagram, 3lau faced backlash from the Trump administration and the left, who were upset that he dared to be emboldened. However, one of his main detractors was a fellow DJ named Deadmau5 (pronounced mouse), a Canadian named Joel Thomas Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was disgusted that 3lau had accepted an invitation to DJ at a Trump event and that 3lau had accused him of association with “Nazis.”
“Here’s the best takeaway,” the Canadian said, “not one person in the whole dumb fuck regime who cares about you or even gives you a far-fetched shit about who you are.” . Remembered by any of EM. But hardly anyone in this business will remember that you were standing behind the Nazis. I’m glad you got some drink tickets out of the deal, enjoy them, you nepo piss baby.”
3lau, however, proved unwilling to give in to the backlash. He gave a totally throaty reply to his attacker, claiming he was “proud” to have attended Trump's event.
“As a matter of fact: I'm a proud American,” 3lau responded to his detractors. “The freedoms we have in this country allow me to pursue my passions, whether I am a founder, CEO, or musician. You shouldn’t.”
He added: “This is exactly the action that divided us. I am steadfast in my decision to focus on my music and what keeps our country moving forward. This is not always consistent with a single party. However, progress comes from working together, not against each other.”
He also receives a flood of support online, with many people calling Deadmau5.
3lau then pointed to Trump's support for crypto and blockchain technology.
“I firmly believe in both free speech and accelerating technological innovation,” he wrote. “These principles are essential to my identity, and I believe that cryptography and blockchain technology are monumental forces essential to our future as a nation. I support many aspects of the vision we hold for our future, and for the record, I stand by my choices, even though none of them align perfectly with the values of the president or the party. I am grateful to be a part of our democracy.”
Another DJ, Robin Balliet, also stood up for 3lau, and explosion Deadmau5 is being a hypocrite and saying, “Publicly criticizing another artist for performing for someone you don't support politically is a sign of “inclusion'' that music and the industry represent. Does it reflect “sexuality”? ” he asked.
