Black Sabbath Announces Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Performance In First Reunion Since 2005

Black Sabbath announced their official final show Wednesday on Instagram, marking the last time Ozzy Osbourne will take the stage.

They legendary metal group will play alongside a number of iconic supporting acts, including sets from Metallica, Alice In Chains, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon. The show will be held July 5 at Villa Park, in Black Sabbath’s hometown of Birmingham, England. The historical event will unite the band’s original lineup, comprised of frontman Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward for their first performance together in two decades. The final live show has been dubbed “Back To The Beginning, and will be Osbourne’s final bow.

“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” Osbourne said in a statement shared on the band’s official Instagram page.

“How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”

The band highlighted their collective achievements in the long caption.

“Formed in Birmingham in 1968 and going on to become one of most successful metal bands of all time, Black Sabbath have sold over 75 million albums worldwide across their legendary career,” they wrote.

“Setting the blueprint for the many routes heavy metal took, Black Sabbath’s influence and importance is as vital today as it was in the early 1970s.”

Rage Against the Machine co-founder Tom Morello, serving as the event’s music director, provided a statement. “This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever,” he said.

The band tagged a number of other artists set to take the stage for the three-day event, including Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins, David Draiman from Disturbed, Slash from Guns ‘n Roses, Frank Bello from Anthrax, Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit, Korn’s Jake Lee, Morello and Wolfgang Van Halen.

Fans who just can’t get enough of the stellar list of performers will be pleased to know the list keeps on growing, and more artists will be announced in the coming days.

The band highlighted that all proceeds will be directed to charities Cure Parkinsons, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice backed by Aston Villa.
