Senate to vote on key Trump nominee after Democrats hold contentious overnight debate

The Senate is poised to vote on whether to confirm that Russell has snuggled into the role of a top administration after Democrats held a rare overnight session to oppose his nomination.

While many Trump candidates have bipartisan support, Vought's nomination has been controversial among Democrats opposed because of his stance on the Water Storage Control Act.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted to advance Vought's nomination to a final vote on the floor, prompting a 30-hour, overnight debate period where Democrats vowed to use it entirely in protest.

Democrats had planned to ensure speakers would hold the floor all night to delay Vought's confirmation.

However, the Senate could win a confirmation vote for Vought on Thursday evening once the discussion period ends.
