Bears owner Virginia McCusky passed away Thursday at the age of 102, the team announced.
McCusky was the owner of the Bears from October 31, 1983, losing his father and team patriarch George “Papa Bear” Harass.
“We are sad to say that Virginia Haras McCasky has lived a long, full of faith and is comforted to know that she now has the love of her life on earth. “It's been,” the Bears said in a statement.
“She has guided the Bears for 40 years and is based on every business decision about what's best for Bears players, coaches, staff and fans.”
Virginia had a brother, George “Mug” Haras Jr., who tragically died of a heart attack in 1979, giving him complete control of the team after his father's death.
Chicago won their only Super Bowl with her lead and defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XX in 1986.
Born in Virginia Marion Hallas, she married Ed McCausky in 1943, and they had 11 children together.
Although Ed passed away in 2008, Virginia continues to lead the Bears as the longest decorated owner in major professional sports.
Although this has not always been a successful effort.
The Bears have a record of 335-340 since 1983 and are 105-139 since 2010.
McCasky's son George is the current president of the Bears and is working to secure a new stadium for the team.
The stadium issue has not yet been resolved, but team president Kevin Warren recently expressed optimism that they could reach the deal.
“Downtown remains a focus, it's the museum's campus,” Warren said. “I feel we've created a lot of momentum. Again, I've made a lot of progress here in 20 months, but along those lines, we've made a lot of progress. owns 326 acres of beautiful land in Arlington Heights. It is a great property. There we were able to understand the memorandum. So, although options exist, the goal is to have a shovel on the ground in 2025. We will continue to stick to what remains. We are sure that will happen.”
