The 28-year-old asked Karien Alia to take care of herself with her mother before the phone was over. When she called back, she learned that he had died of his injuries.
He was 10 of the 10 people killed when gunmen fired fire at Orebro's Adult Education Center where Iskev was studying to become a nurse.
The couple recently bought a house and were planning to get married this summer.
“He had all these dreams in his heart. Now, unfortunately, all of these dreams are gone. Father Jacob Caselia, the priest of their local Orthodox Christian Church, was in Sweden. He spoke to TV4, the broadcasting station.
Officials said the shooter, who has not yet been officially identified, fired with at least one rifle-like weapon and is connected to an adult education center that may have previously attended school.
The shooter was found dead with three guns next to his body, ten empty magazines, and a massive amount of unused ammunition. It was not clear how he died, but officials said police would not return his shooting.
Officers found at least five people over the age of 18 with serious gunshot wounds. A sixth person was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators have not revealed the critical motivation behind the bloodshed. Police said there was no warning in advance and believe the perpetrator acted alone. Authorities said there was no doubt about any link to terrorism at this time.

The school's campus, Risbergska, offers major and secondary education classes for adults over the age of 20, with Swedish classes for immigration, vocational training and programs for people with intellectual disabilities. It is located on the outskirts of Orebro, about 125 miles from Stockholm.
ISKEF has since been researching nursing as a healthcare worker during the Covid-19 pandemic. His family fled Syria between 2014 and 2015 due to years of civil war.
“We've lived together for the rest of our lives,” his sister, Hanan Eskiff, told TV4. “We worked together, studied together, went to church together. My life was with him, how am I supposed to live without him?”
Their family held a service ceremony at the Orthodox Christian Church, but by the end of Thursday they had not received the body of ISKEF.
“We keep looking out the window thinking that he might come back and knock on the door. We have to open it. We won't sleep, we I won't eat, I won't drink. Eskiv told the broadcaster.
Swedish gun
government Swedish Democrats planned on Friday to move forward with proposals to strengthen gun laws, including restricting access to semi-automatic weapons such as the AR-15, Swedish news agency TT reported.
Authorities said the shooter had a license for four weapons, three of which were found next to his body. Police seized the fourth. Officials have only said that at least one gun is a rifle-like weapon.
Currently, in order to legally own a firearm in Sweden, the applicant must Weapon Licenses and Demonstration Used for acceptable purposes such as hunting or shooting targets and not misused.
Applicants must provide a previously obtained hunting or target shooting certificate.
Hunting certificates require people to pass the training course, while target shooters must be certified as active and experienced members of the club.
According to Swedish news agency TT, the country of about 10.5 million people had over 660,000 registered gun owners in the beginning of 2024.
The registered owners had around 2 million guns, objects considered firearms, and weapon parts requiring permission.
TT reported that 1.6 million of these guns are registered for hunting and an additional 176,000 have been registered for target shooting.
All weapons must be stored in a secure cabinet approved by the police.
Applications for fully automatic or one-handed weapons are granted only for exceptional reasons, and such permissions are generally time-limited.
If the weapon is changed to be significantly different from the original function, the permission will be revoked.
