Islanders facing tough roster decisions with NHL trade deadline nearing

Winnipeg, Manitoba – What has happened in the past few weeks has changed the paradigm of the islanders, not just the rankings, but perhaps a month from now on trade deadlines.

It is not known that the exact time frame for Noah Dobson, Ryan Prock and Scott Mayfield will return, but Dobson and Prock have long time frames – during a break from four countries It is expected that Mayfield will begin skating on the day, which is described as the day, heading for the two-week layoffs.

It is not clear whether the imminent logjam on the right side of the defense will come to mind by March 7th.

The trio brought by the islanders – Tony DeAngelo, Scott Pernovich and Adam Bokvist – are going to force some offensive questions at some point.

If only one of the three injured players returns, the islanders can deal with it by moving Bokvist to the left, where he lined up to make his debut in Tampa Bay the night Mayfield was injured. It was there.

But if all three come back, well, there are only 23 roster spots. You have to give something.

It's not guaranteed to last long, but the islanders are now winning the game with this lineup.

“They're moving the puck very well,” coach Patrick Roy said before Friday night's game against the Jets. “They break out. They're skilled guys. They just move the pack. They get involved in rushes a lot. [They are] Very good skater. Otherwise it's hard to say. ”

Roy didn't mean that in a pointless way, but all of these were aspects that the islanders lacked in the defense by mid-January.

They are now seeing how valuable it is to have a pack exercise across their blue line.

You need to choose it immediately.

They will move either Pulock or Mayfield (the two-person carrier island state) and both will drop the bomb into the dressing room under a long-term contract with a full non-trade clause.

There was speculation about Mayfield in the 2022-23 contract year, and regular speculation about Prock, a native of Manitoba, often connected to Winnipeg, but that's it.

In the relative Nadir of his value, moving 25-year-old Dobson and getting injured in a disappointing season, the islanders say they believe he is kind of unworthy of a long-term commitment – Perhaps $8 million to $10 million per year cap spicking – he is set to order in the summer.

Given his lack of protection without trade and the likelihood that he is one of the more valuable trade assets of the islanders even in this year's struggle, it becomes a question that needs to be asked suddenly .

Deangelo, Perunovich and Boqvist are all short-term commitments at the moment. Although they have not been signed since this season, Perunovich and Boqvist are both restricted free agents.

All of them are expected to be held at a low cost this summer.

With the cap set on spikes, the islanders are not facing exactly the crunch, but if you want to move on to the existence of spending, saving some money on the backend will make it easier It's the method.

It's a champagne issue and may not be something that islanders need to deal with until the deadline for deals, depending on Dobson and Prock's timeline.

It would obviously change the equation.

But all three new guys, Deangelo in particular, have played enough so far to gain roles beyond just filling injuries.

“It adds another element,” Captain Anders Lee said. “The passing lanes they create are open, and they did an amazing job with the blue line, creating lanes to keep the puck alive.

“As forward, when you're there, whether I'm in front of the net or the guys lying down, they're looking at options and using them. More zones It allows time and offers more opportunities online. They do a great job of looking at the ice very well and playing games and our systems in the game.”
