NEA Putting Patriotism First Under Trump, Focusing on Projects Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

The National Fund for the Arts (NEA) has placed patriotism at the heart of patriotism under a new directive from the Trump administration, shifting its focus to a project celebrating America's 250th anniversary next year.

Amid a major departure from past administrations, President Donald Trump has issued new guidelines to the NEA. It communicates federal grants to arts organizations around the country.

The updated directive allows agencies to prioritize projects celebrating the “national rich artistic heritage and creativity” by celebrating the US NEA's semi-calcentennial (250th anniversary). I said In a press release on Thursday.

This includes projects that incorporate anniversary into larger efforts.

The Trump administration is expected to devote important resources to celebrate next year, 250 years after signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Additionally, the NEA said it has cancelled its America Grants challenge. This is a program that gives money to small arts organizations that are primarily useful for ethnic minority groups and the LGBTQQIAAP2S+ community. Groups affected by the cut may be able to apply for money through a variety of programs, the NEA said.

The NEA receives approximately $200 million per year in federal funds. The latest chairman was Maria Rosario Jackson, appointed in 2021 by then-President Joe Biden. Jackson resigned after President Trump took office in January.

For many years, the NEA has faced criticism of its fundraising decisions, with the organization handing out money to arts companies that promote political agendas.

Among the past winners is New York's Public Theater. Julius Caesar.

In his first term, President Trump previewed what the Semi-Tech Centennial celebration would look like in 2019's “Salute to America.” That patriotic event included elevated roads on aircraft at each branch of the military, musical performances, and exhibitions by the Marine Corps silent drill team.
