Three changes for this struggling England side: Jacob Bethell has a hamstring injury, and Tom Banton (remember him?) is flying out to join the squad. Bethell’s place goes not to Rehan Ahmed, the other slow-bowling all-rounder, but to Jamie Overton. Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson also come in as Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse are rested. So England, whose policy of playing three fast bowlers hasn’t been a great success, now have four. That’s Brendon McCullum for you.

Morning everyone and welcome to the second game in the ODI series. This is it, the crunch. If England lose again, another series will be gone. If they win, it’ll be 1-1 and they may even go into the third and final game with a modicum of momentum.

The good news is that this match is taking place at Cuttack, which is traditionally full of runs. The bad news is that India lose only one game in four here: last time England were in town, eight years ago, they made 366 and still lost. The neither good nor bad news is that Cuttack hasn’t hosted an ODI for five years, so it may have changed its ways.

India, as usual, are hot favourites. They are so good at white-ball cricket that they can even get away with recalling their big names. Today, Virat Kohli is due back after missing the first ODI with a bad knee. It’s the kind of thing that can happen when you’re 36 and you’ve got 550 international games on the clock.

The first ball is due to be bowled at 1.30pm in Cuttack, which is 8am in London. I’ll be back about 25 minutes before that with the toss, the teams and possibly some toast.

Important Events
9th: England 66-0 (salt 16, Duckett 47) And here's the spin time. Rohit gives pride to the new boy Varun Chakaravarthy, who is also an old man. The 33-year-old appears to be India's oldest ODI debutant, returning to the fog of the 1970s, since Farov's engineer. The batsman treats his Cumbre-esque broken leg with respect and settles on a single, finding only four of them, making this the best for India.
8th: England 62-0 (salt 14, udecette 45) Hardik begins to over–dot, one, dot–but Duckett gives a prize to the pad. It feels like England has to get 300 here and that will depend on how they handle the spinner.
7th: England 54-0 (12 salt, 39 ducket) So how does Salt celebrate that grace? By driving the next ball at 4. It's still Shami and despite him he is, the great bowler is fine with this little ground batsman. Duckett cuts again with four people 50 Partnershipsin the third consecutive from these two. Getting started was not a UK issue. The problem is that they can avoid the collapse of the conventional middle over.
6th: England 44-0 (7 salt, 34 duckett) Rohit made his first bowling change, replacing Harshit Rana with Hardik Pandya. He bowls, but gives the Duckett a width and can take 2, 4, 1 in the cover point area. The salt faces the final bowl. Graeme Swann creates sharp points with commentary, putting pressure on him when he gets outscore by your opening partner, saying he might go for a big shot now. Salt officially plays a gorgeous top cut, and the ball soars into the air above the third man – and Axar Patel drops it!
5th: England 35-0 (6 salt, 27 ducket) Shami lets out an LBW scream against the salt, likely dropping down before bowling wide and wide duckets on the side of the foot. KL Rahul reaches out to it and stops it from turning into five wide. When Shami returns to offside, Duckett cuts the four.
Fourth: England 28-0 (6 salt, 22 ducket) Lana continues taller, but not medium, military. Duckett draws him at four more and slams him beautifully. Fil Salt is a passenger on a Porsche in Duckett.
Third time: England 23-0 (5 salt, 18 ducket) If you want to flash, try to flash it hard. Duckett cuts Shami with Venom and although Chakaravarthy manages the dive, it's not a clean pickup, so I'll collect four more. Shami bounces at three dots when the commentator finds an uneven bounce. This may explain why Jos Butler chose to hit first. Duckett finishes the overs with a clip up to the long legs four more times. This has been five Fours so far, with only three singles.
Second time: England 15-0 (5 salt, 10 ducket) The other day, Harshit Rana was very impressive, starting with a loose finish. It's not long enough, and Duckett finds the middle of the bat with a crunch pull. Duckett then tries to cut and picks up Jammy from the 4 to a long stop, so he gets a little more luck.
1st time: England 6-0 (5 salt, 1 ducket) Shami quickly finds a swing. Fil Salt deals with it and pushes the first ball out for a single. Ben Duckett is not much guaranteed and does not have a second border, but it escapes because there is no second slip. The first big shot comes from salt. This is an outer slash that connects to thin air. However, he tries again and gets right, lifting the final ball onto the ring.
The player is in the fiery sunlight And Mohammed Shami has the ball.
Email! “MoMentum,” says Andrew Benton. “It's certainly essential that when Brendon McCollum fires things, it's essential that Maureen Mentum keeps things moving in the right direction on a regular basis. I hope she's now a member of the support staff. “Ha.
Team: India
There was a moment when I was greeted with loud cheers. That was when Rohit Sharma said that perhaps the world's best young player, Yashasvi Jaiswar, was left behind. The crowd has nothing against Jaiswal. It's just that his replacement is Virat Kohli. Rohit announced another change, with Kuldeep Yadav giving way to Varun Chakaravarthy, who made his ODI debut. In the T20 series, he tied England to the knot.
India 1 Rohit (Capt), 2 Gill, 3 Kohli, 4 Iyer, 5 Rahul (Wkt), 6 Pandya, 7 Axar, 8 Jadeja, 9 Chakaravarthy, 10 Rana, 11 Shami.
Team: England
Three changes on this struggling England side: Jacob Bethel suffers a hamstring injury and Tom Bunton (remember him?) is jumping out to join the team. Bethel's location goes to Jamie Overton, rather than to the other slowly exploding all-around Rehan Ahmed. Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson also come in as Jofra Archer and Brydon Curse rest. So England has not had a huge success with its policy of playing three fast bowlers, and they have four. It's Brendon McCollum for you.
England 1 salt (wkt), 2 duckeys, 3 routes, 4 brooks, 5 buttonlers (capt), 6 living stons, 7 overtons, 8 atkinsons, 9 rashids, 10 timbers, 11 mahmoods.
England wins toss and bats
I hope Jos Buttler wins the toss and hits first. “Looking,” says Rohit Sharma. “It looks like a typical Indian pitch.”
preamble
Everyone, welcome to the second game in the ODI series. This is a crunch. If England loses again, another series will disappear. If they win, it's 1-1 and they can even enter the third final game with even a bit of momentum.
The good news is that this match is being played with cut tacks. This is traditionally full of orchids. The bad news is that India has lost just four here and only one game. They made 366 and were still lost. Both the good and bad news may have changed the way Cuttack hasn't hosted ODI in five years.
India, as always, is a hot favourite. They're good at whiteball cricket, so they can even get away by remembering their big names. Today, Virat Kohli is back after missing his first ODI with a knee bad. That can happen when you're 36 years old and have 550 international games on your watch.
The first ball will be bowled at 1:30pm at Cutter, London at 8am. I'll come back about 25 minutes before that with a toss, a team and perhaps a few toasts.
