USPS employee sentenced for stealing $24 million worth of mailed checks

The former US Postal Service (USPS) employee was recently sentenced to prison after she and two co-conspirators stole checks over $24 million, according to the Department of Justice.

Dena J. King, a US lawyer for the Western District of North Carolina, announced her ruling in a press release last week on February 7th. In prison for 54 months each.

Officials say Shannon, who was employed by USPS from March 2021 to July 2023, stole reception and outbound checks while working as a postal processing clerk at a distribution center in Charlotte.

According to a press release, Shannon has admitted to stealing checks for work from April to July 2023. Her conspirators included Carter and Donnell Gardner, who were sentenced to 54 months in 2023 and sentenced to a three-year supervised release.

Officials say the burglars stole checks totaling more than $24 million.

The U.S. Lawyer's Office said the defendant pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit fraud at a financial institution and theft of government property. They were ordered to jointly and separately pay $113,333.87 in reparations.
