Fans Blast the NFL After the Singing of the ‘Black National Anthem’ Before Super Bowl LIX

NFL fans let out frustration on social media on Sunday after singer Ledisi performed I lift up Ev'ry's voice and singIt is also known as the “Black National Anthem.”

The performance came shortly after a series of tributes commemorating the New Year terrorist attacks in New Orleans and the Los Angeles wildfires, named after the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

X fans quickly expressed their dissatisfaction.






The NFL began adding performances of lift EV'ry Voice in the game in 2020 after a turbulent and violent summer after George Floyd's death. Then, like it is now, the song was sung before. While many of the social justice initiatives that the Sports League undertaken after Floyd's death have slowly faded, the NFL stubbornly retains many of the innovations of the Floyd era, including the social justice slogans of the endzone.
