Treasury Secretary Bessent denies DOGE team is ‘tinkering’ with the payment system, says they have ‘read-only’ access

Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent has criticized “false information” about unauthorized access to payment systems by government accountable workers.

Critics embraced the Trump administration after allegations emerged that government department-accountable workers were given access to view and edit payment information for millions of Americans.

“They don't have the ability to change the system. I don't have the ability to accept the change.”

Bessent commented in an interview with Bloomberg Television, where the Treasury Department said it had no access to even the criticized system.

“There's a lot of misinformation there, so thank you for asking me about it,” Bescent said.

“First of all, when it comes to the Doge team, these are Treasury employees. Two Finance employees. One of them interviewed me personally in his final round,” he added. Ta.

“We don't tinker with the system. They're read-only. They're looking. They can't make any changes. It's an operational program that suggests improvements.”

He went on to say they pay 1.3 billion times a year at the Treasury. When asked if the team could access to change entries, Bescent said “that's definitely not.”

Bessent also said the Federal Reserve has the ability to change data rather than the Treasury Department.

“We don't even run the system,” he said. “They don't have the ability to change the system. I don't have the ability to accept the changes.”

The Treasury has been sued by a coalition of unions claiming access to the payment system.

On Thursday, a federal judge ordered Bescent to side with the union and only allow “read-only” access to the system.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Beast continued to praise Doge's efforts.

“I think there's a huge cost savings here for Americans,” he said. “I believe this Doge program in my adult life is one of the most important government audits, or changes in government structure.
