Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) voted for anything on “The Readout” on Monday until a Republican summons either Elon Musk or a member of his Doge team. He said it was prepared not to do so.
Partial transcripts as follows:
Joy Reid: Democrats are in the minority, so let's ask this. To Mike Johnson, at least Elon Musk will be summoned, or summoned, until you can summon Big Balls and summon the Indian Man of Hate, Voting for Budget. , did you basically make it clear that there are no votes or any Democrat votes? To keep the government open. That's what Democrats are leveraging what is theoretically correct. Are you all ready to use it?
Garcia: Look, I think we are ready to use all the leverage. And I think leader Jeffries is in those conversations now. I personally have no interest in voting for anything, absolutely anything, until I get the real answers from Republicans and protect the public data and data of Americans whom people trust us. And I think we must continue to make those efforts and keep their meetings closed. Just a few days ago we were in the Department of Labor, the DOJ team was actually heading for that meeting, but there were so many people around the building that they canceled the meeting. We must continue to show up to protest it, protest it, and commit to not working with Elon Musk, the Doge Committee or these Republicans.
