J.T. Miller sees bonus in Team USA’s heavy Rangers presence at 4 Nations

MONTREAL – The four-country face-off tournament began unofficially for four rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Standing behind the Penguin bench, he defeated the blues shirt 3-2, Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan gathered for five minutes with Chris Cryder, J.T. Miller, Vincent Trokek and Adam Fox. Ta.

From the other side to unite as fellow brothers, the aforementioned five and the rest of the NHL's top Americans will seek to win the first Best On Tournament Crown in the United States since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

“He kept it pretty fast,” Fox said of the meeting. “They just sent some video clips for the structure and he wanted us to learn the system, but before, it should not be too handy. Adapt Just introduce yourself.”

Rangers are more represented than any other NHL team in Team USA and are selected from the cream of three forwards and US-born players in the league.

Of course, Miller was chosen when he was still a Kanak, but now he's counted in total after being traded to New York on January 31st.

With the addition of Miller, the Blues Shirt has six players skated for each country at the NHL's first international event in nine years. This is the second most common among NHL clubs.

“It's nice that they're here. We can get to know a little more,” Miller said that Team USA has three Rangers teammates. “I think we'll step into us in the sense that we're getting to know them like we have friendships and bonds, so when we go back there's a little more glue.”

Team USA practiced at Bell Center on Tuesday. This will host the first four games of the tournament before moving to Boston for the final three, including the championship game.

On defense, Fox skated in his first pair with Hurricane Jackob Slavin. Natives from Jericho, New York also got a rep on their first power play.

Miller centers on the third line of Team USA with Senator Brady Tokachuk and Wild Matt Boldy on the right on the left. Meanwhile, Trokek skated in the middle of the fourth line with islanders Brock Nelson and Red Wings' Dylan Larkin.

Kreider also spins in the fourth unit, but it appears likely that it will serve as a scratch when the US opens a tournament against Finland on Thursday.

Cryder could enter the second half of the tournament, especially if the forward group is injured. But for now, the idea that Team USA must face the best man at his wedding, Mika Zibanejad, when he plays Sweden in Boston, brings the longest-equipped ranger to smile.

“I think he knows all my tricks,” Crader said. “Unfortunately, his bag of tricks is much deeper than mine. I don't know how often I'm on the ice against him, he's sort of like the rest of the level. It's something.”

Zibanejad appears to be right in his element along with his fellow Swedish indigenous peoples.

The fact that he actually focuses on the top line between William Nylander of the Swedish Maple Leafs and Rickard Ruckel of the Penguin, makes him even more excited for the 31-year-old.

“To be honest, I feel like a child again,” Zibanejad said. “When you speak Swedish to your teammates, you hold a meeting in Swedish, and it brings you back. Have I been away from Swedish hockey for 14 years? I'm just used to guys, coaches, thinking. I don't think it takes that long. It was so much fun and exciting.

“Obviously we want to win, that's the mentality we're going to go to tomorrow, nothing will change there, but I think there's another excitement in a tournament like this. ”

Defensive man Urho Varkaninen, the Rangers acquired for Jacob Truba in December, signed a contract with the duck and knew it was an extra for Team Finland from Christmas time. And when the Finnish Blue Line suffered three separate injuries, Vakaninen received an appeal to officially fill it.

Vacaninen, who skates primarily to the left of Senator Nicholas Matinpalo, appears to be ready for the third pair, as he received in his first 23 games with the Rangers.

“It's great, it's my first men's national team tournament, so it's going to be special,” Varkaninen said. “It's just an honor.”
