Marcus Stroman ends Yankees absence in ‘awkward’ trade situation

Tampa – Marcus Stroman's holdout is over.

Following the mandatory physics he took on Tuesday after missing out on his first two days of training, Stroman reported returning to Yankee Camp at Stein Brenner Field on Friday.

He was expected to be in training for the first time this spring.

Stroman, who the Yankees tried to trade this offseason for veterans, had to report to camp under CBA rules until February 22nd.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that he was trying to fine-tune Stromann to stay at camp, but he respected his rights that weren't here yet.

“Obviously, we want to make it clear that all our players are here,” Boone said Thursday. “That being said, I'm pleased with where he is physically and mentally. He's a proud player. He's a guy with a great career. Obviously, it's a bit of awkward That's a situation. Of course I want him here.

“We're trying to keep tweaking him to get here. But we need to respect the fact that this is something the player is allowed. There's a mandatory date and he's now going to I've chosen it.”
