Anthony Rendon may just opt to retire to end his Angels misery

As GM Perry Minazian said he'll be out indefinitely for hip surgery, the Angels provide even worse news about the highly paid three-base move this week, and when will Anthony Rendon return to the field, or There was speculation about the case. .

Now, some wonder if the 34-year-old might call it quits after his latest injury.

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, which covers Rendon and Angels, is “Baseball Tonight” podcast With Buster Olney.

“When I talk to people who know Anthony Rendon, the idea is that he might just retire,” Gonzalez said. “His [hip] Surgery is a big job [and] He only has one year left on the contract this season. I have to think this is the end. I don't think he's playing another game for the Angels. ”

Certainly, the Angels, who gave Rendon a seven-year, $245 million contract before the 2020 season, signs up for that.

However, Rendon has a deadline of over $38 million for both this season and 2026, and the decision to quit and give up will not thrill the MLB Players Association.

Perhaps the Orioles will reach a settlement, as they received a postponed payment until 2037, with Chris Davis, who is riding on a Baltimore salary.

This may even appeal to Rendon, who was not shy about expressing his lack of passion for playing the game.

Just a year ago, he attracted attention when he expressed those ideas during spring training.

“This was by no means a top priority,” Rendon said last February. “This is a job. I'll make a living doing this. My faith and my family come first before this job. So if they come before it, I'll start. I'll proceed to.'

At the time, he said he was not considering retirement.

“To be honest, my enthusiasm has been the same since I was drafted,” Rendon said. “I deleted the old email and came back [and] I emailed myself the pros and cons [list] Why did I want to stay in the game? This was 2014. So my thinking process in the game hasn't changed since then. ”

But there is his performance.

He won four NL MVP votes with the Nationals from 2014 to 2019, and starred in the Washington World Series in the 2019 season.

However, Rendon has not played more than 58 games in any of his five seasons with the Angels. That streak will definitely continue this year.

He lived up to expectations in his first season after signing the contract.

But it was a disaster as his availability and production has plummeted and never ended since.
