Teacher accused of sex with special-needs student; allegedly gave boy fentanyl, told him to ‘shoot’ faculty member

A former Colorado paraprofessional has admitted to sexually assaulting minor special needs students. The former instructor was also accused of providing fentanyl to minors and allegedly told the boy to bring a gun to the school to “shoot another teacher.”

In November, 28-year-old Imagine Kay Ewar pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child who is in a position contributing to the delinquency of a 1° minor. Both are felony.

During the sentencing, the victim's mother declared that she had “preyed” his son.

“The defendant preyed on my son and made him believe he truly cared for him. “What makes this even more painful is that I trusted the defendant. …What I really meant to be If I had known what was going on, I would never have given him such close access.”

In her ruling, Ewer said: “I just want to apologize to the victim and the victim's family. I'm really sorry. This will never happen again.”

Ewer worked at Brady Exploration School, located in the Denver suburbs of Lakewood.

In November 2023, the Lakewood Police Department received hints that school teachers allegedly noticed “inappropriate writing” on student class worksheets. Police have launched an investigation.

Staff told investigators they witnessed Ewer expressing “favours” towards a 16-year-old student.

Police said they found evidence of an inappropriate relationship between Ewer and the minor boy, which began around September 2023.

Ewer was arrested in January 2024.

During the trial, Bryn Chase, a special victim of the First Judicial District Attorney's Office, accused the boy of providing illegal substances, including fentanyl. Paraprofessional is said to have instructed special needs students to “take pictures” of school teachers.

“In thousands of thousands of text messages, the defendant said, “In the case of thousands of text messages, the victim could bring a gun to a sexual encounter and even direct the child victims.” I'll repeatedly insist that I wanted it.” To take the gun to school and shoot another teacher with his foot,” Chase said.

Ewer was employed at Jefferson County Public Schools from 2015 to 2023. This included roles as a school nurse, a paraprofessional and teaching assistant.

Chase noted that “several individuals in positions of trust” have been charged with child sex offences over the past year.

“In the past year, multiple individuals in trust within Jefferson County have been charged and charged with similar crimes,” Chase said. “While school districts play an important role in addressing and preventing such actions, the ability of the criminal justice system to provide accountability is only through collaboration and common safety.”
