The NBA All-Star Game has a history of tinkering with formats. The league chose to abolish the traditional Eastern Conference vs Western Conference game in 2017 and instead perform an All-Star draft with major voters. In 2020, the NBA changed the end of the All-Star Game from a running clock to a target score. These alternatives proved fun for years, but the efforts at last year's NBA All-Star Game were so pathetic that the league announced a still bold change to the midseason showcase of the league's best players I did.
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game format has been completely revamped. Currently, it is a tournament of four teams with a game of up to 40 points. The league's 24 All-Stars are divided into three eight-man teams, with the fourth team becoming the winner of Friday's Rising Star Challenge. The two winning teams will play in the All-Star Game Championship. This is an interesting phrase to consider. It all goes down on Sunday, February 16th from San Francisco's Chase Center.
The NBA maintained the All-Star vote in the same way. Starters selected each meeting via fan voting (50%), player voting (25%), and media voting (25%). The coach selected the All-Star Reserve to fill out the 12 rosters in the East and West. The 24 NBA All-Stars were put in the pool and drafted into three teams by Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. These three teams will join the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge Games, featuring rookies and sophomores for the All-Star Game Championship.
