Family, friends of 17-year-old girl shot in NYC house left baffled by mysterious death, unanswered questions: family

The Brooklyn teen, who fatally shot Queens in the head, had dreams of joining the Air Force, her distraught family said on Sunday.

Deaza Barkley, 17, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head inside a Jamaican home in Queens shortly after police were called to the scene for reports of the shooting.

She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but was declared dead soon after.

Just what happened to the girl – and the reason why she was at the Queens address, which was not her home, remains unknown, but her family and friends are baffled by the murder.

“She was preparing to graduate from high school and her plan was to apply for a job in the Air Force,” Deaza's mother told the Post.

A family friend who refused to be named described her as a loved one for her family and always well-behaved.

“I just came from Florida for a wedding. Her mother cried this morning and called me and told me what had happened,” the friend said.

“I know she liked dancing and was a high school cheerleader.”

“She never got into trouble. She has an older sister and a younger brother,” they added.

“I'm confused. I'm trying to find out what happened.”

The address where Deaza was killed is a large house on a quiet, lined neighborhood street.

Law enforcement sources said people interested in the shooting were being detained and interviewed.

The photographs of the scene show a man being guided away from home with handcuffs.

The investigation is still underway.
