President Donald Trump has announced that a team of four US officials will work on negotiations with Russia and Ukraine to end the war that has been raging between the two countries since 2022.

Rubio headed to a security meeting in Munich on Thursday. This was a well-known annual conference focusing on security issues at the international level, where he and Vice President JD Vance met with Zelensky on Friday.
Trump also spoke with Zelensky on Wednesday, and announced that Ukrainian leaders wanted to reach a peace deal.
“Like President Putin, he wants to create peace. He has discussed various topics related to war, but most of the time, Vice JD Vance was held at a meeting established in Munich on Friday. The president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hope that the outcome of the encounter will be positive!” Trump wrote.
Rubio served as the US Republican Senator representing Florida from 2011 to 2025. This was a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and vice-chair of the Senate Selection Committee on Intelligence Reports.

Russia and Ukraine have been at war since February 2022, when Russia invaded its neighboring countries. Trump said on the 2024 campaign trail that he would end the war if he was re-elected, but claimed that it would never have started if he were in an oval office at the time.
