Officials say food distributors are recalling a particular batch of granola bars due to potential contamination involving metal objects.
The recall launched by Riverside Natural Foods Inc. relates to MadeGood Granola Bars.
It first launched on December 9th, and according to Today.com, the recall will affect over 2 million granola bars.
The bars are “recalled because there may be metal fragments in the product and if consumed, they could pose a safety hazard,” the company's statement said.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised the risk level for recalls to its second highest risk classification, Class II, on February 11th.
Class II recalls include “where the probability of a severe adverse effect that can cause temporary or medically reversible health effects or is far away.”
The next flavors of granola bar will be affected:
- Chocolate chip granola bar
- Mixed Berry Granola Bar
- Strawberry Granola Bar
- Cookies and cream granola bar
- Chocolate Banana Granola Bar
- Chocolate-dried birthday cake granola bar
- Cookie Crumble Granola Bar with light rain chocolate
- Chocolate drizzled vanilla granola bar
“Riverside conducted extensive investigations on which the recalled products were manufactured to identify the source of the manufacturing process problems,” Riverside Natural Foods said. “We have improved the issue and tested new processes to ensure that future risks are completely mitigated.”
“Consumers who purchase these products are asked to check them against the list and return the recalled products to the store where they purchased them for a full refund.”
