Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) said he is “seriously considering” his appointment to run for the Minnesota Senate seat.
“We are seriously considering Minnesota's open Senate seat,” Craig I said in a post on Monday Social Platform X.
Last Thursday, Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith, D., announced that she will not be running for reelection in two years. In the X video, Smith said he “loves” his role as a member of the upper chamber of Congress, but wanted more time with his family.
“This job has been a lifelong honor. For the rest of my semester, I'm working as hard as I can for Minnesotan and our country,” Smith said in X. “Thank you very much, Minnesota.”
Smith has been in his current seat since 2018 as he was appointed to take the seat of former Senator Arunken (D-Minn.) as a result of his resignation amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
In 2016, President Trump lost Minnesota about 1.5 points. In the last election, the president lost four points.
Craig was one of the early Democrats who called on former President Biden to get out of the 2024 presidential election following a June presidential performance from the former president.
“Given what we saw and heard from the president during the discussion in Atlanta last week, the discussion, coupled with the lack of a strong response from the president himself, will effectively campaign and win. I don't think I can do it [former President] The Minnesota Democrats said in a statement starting in July.
