Trump admin tells agencies to stop considering DEI when handing out govt contracts

The Trump administration this week revised federal acquisition rules and called for the government to halt diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) considerations when awarding contracts. The change is in line with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)'s broader efforts to fundamentally transform federal operations.

“The actions taken by the GSA will make it easier for the industry to sell products and services to the government,” Deputy Manager Ehikian said Tuesday. “The GSA is leading the way in government change and strongly encourages other agencies to follow our lead.”

Trump and fellow Republicans have been pushing hard on DEI policies in recent weeks, arguing that the government should instead focus on meritocracy. Doge claims it is already addressing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in DEI-related contract cuts, including $350 million at the Department of Education last week.

Last month, Doge announced that taxpayers will see more than $1 billion in savings from the elimination of 104 DEI contracts.
