Brett Baty, the third baseman for the New York Mets, abandoned No. 22 to Juan Soto, and his new teammate rewarded him with a brilliant response for it.
Soto bought the Baty A Car as a symbol of gratitude for giving up on No. 22 on Thursday, in a fresh off signing the biggest deal in professional sports history.
“I'm really grateful. This is the first thing I've ever worn. I wanted to give you something good,” Soto said.

“Well, this is definitely really good,” Baty replied.
Soto gave him an SUV and left a bow in the hood for his gift to Bati. The outfielder wore No. 22 in Mets colour during the exchange.
“Boy, this is crazy,” Batty said after first getting in the driver's seat.
Soto signed a record 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets this offseason. If Soto opts out five years after the contract, Mets can override it by making the total value of the contract $805 million.

Soto wore No. 22 for the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees.
Soto is a major addition to the Mets team falling into the Los Angeles Dodgers after a surprising run in the NLCS last season.
The Mets held one-base player Pete Alonso in free agency, giving Soto important protection in the lineup.
Unfortunately for Batty, if Alonso is re-signed, it could undermine his chances of creating a first-day roster.
If Alonso departed, the third baseman, Mark Vientos, may have taken over at 1 base and left the 3 base open for Baty.

With Alonso's return, Vientos was penciled in 3 base after a strong second half and playoff runs as he slugded 27 home runs in 111 regular season games last season.
Batty played 50 games last season and struggled, hitting .229 on four home runs.
Whether Baty makes a first day roster or not, he will at least leave his spring training with a new car.
