Democrats on the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee have launched an investigation into Elon Musk's status as a government employee, contradicting his role in the Trump administration and power over government efficiency (DOGE). It quotes the statement.
The administration has provided a confusing statement about masks' role in government as Doge employees look at the dataset from agents to agents and implement cuts.
White House official Joshua Fisher said in court filing Monday that Musk is “not more power than other senior White House advisors,” rather the official director of the senior advisor.
But when he spoke to reporters on Wednesday, President Trump said the opposite.
“In a press conference on the evening of February 19, 2025, in direct contradictory to Fisher's statement of oath, “I have signed an order to create government efficiency and will be in charge of a man named Elon Musk.” He said. “Rep. Jerry Connolly (d-va.) wrote in a letter to Trump.
“Music wields immense authority over the services of the US dogge, so that the American people can see clearly…and in general, the federal government is approved and funded by Congress through the Chipper of the Forest. Although he has the authority to feed federal agencies, he can still feed some of the forest, the White House appears to be intended to obscure the facts of his role. To ensure transparency of Musk and the authorities who have recognized the legal authority that he must direct Doge, I request that you provide substantive documentation regarding his formal role. ” writes Connolly.
The way the White House explained the status of masks has evolved over the months since Doge became pregnant.
Musk was appointed co-leader of Doge alongside Vivek Ramaswamy in November, but Ramaswamy left the effort before Trump was sworn in.
The White House said shortly after taking office that Musk is a special government employee. This is a condition that exposes him to less ethical rules and financial disclosures, limiting his unpaid role to 130 days.
Fisher's statement of oath still refers to Musk as such, but adds that he “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions for himself.” Musk can advise the president and pass on the president's orders. ”
A letter from Connolly asks who the Doge administrator is, Musk's role is for his relationship with Doge and his entity's organizational chart.
It also asks if Musk has made a decision regarding the operation of Doge or other governmental agencies, or if he “issued an order to a member of the US Doge Service.”
Answers from the White House could affect more than 12 lawsuits that challenged access to Doge's authority or databases of various government agencies.
Some people can try and sue Musk with his official capabilities, and Fisher's statement may limit Musk's legal revelations for now, but his statement has been made in a variety of ways. It may raise further questions about the authority of the Doge to take.
