The surge in eggs has prompted an increase in attempts to smuggle them across the southern border.
According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), crash eggs increased by 29% at ports of entry between October and February 2024 compared to the same period last year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“It's a common practice to get some food and medicines and cross the border,” says Joaquin Leken, executive director. Smart Border UnionI said NBC San Diegoand he said people might not notice that raw eggs are on the ban list.
On Monday, CBP Field Operations Director Sidney Aki said his office saw an increase in the number of eggs being intercepted at ports of entry.
“As a reminder, uncooked eggs are prohibited from entering the US from Mexico. He wrote on x.
Avian flu, or avian flu, has increased the price of a dozen eggs.
Amidst the lack of eggs, Turkey has promised to intervene and fill in the void.

Ibrahim Afyon, chairman of the Turkish Central Federation of Egg Producers, told Reuters on Wednesday that “15,000 tonnes (£33 million), equivalent to 700 containers, will be shipped to the United States.”
This shipment is part of a reserve agreement between Türkiye and the US that continues until July 2025.
“Exports are carried out through member companies with the necessary approvals, and two companies coordinate the process,” Afyon said.
