Denver Police Say ‘South American Theft Gang’ Involved in $12 Million Jewelry Heist

The Denver Police Department (DPD) believes members of the “South American Theft Gang” are currently in charge of robbing a jewelry store that has earned more than $12 million on stolen gems and other items

DPD issued According to CBS News, the warrant for illegal immigration from Chile is a warrant that says it is part of a theft ring attacking jewelry stores around the country.

Police say theft that occurred at a Hyde Park store on July 22 was carried out by 33-year-old Gustavo Salas Ortega. They also say Ortega has a criminal history of theft in his native Chile.

Ortega is said to have departed for $12,289,731.76 on watches, jewelry and other items during the robbery.

Police also say the gang, who visited the store around 8pm on July 21, is equipped with a watt torch, drill, saw and other tools. Prosecutors also say the robber crew spent eight hours inside the store and left around 3:30am the next morning.

The gang reportedly broke into the jewelry store by drilling holes in the walls of adjacent stores.

DPD revealed that security footage from the store shows the suspect looking around the store the day before the robbery. They also said his phone was Google searching jewelry stores in Denver, and his iCloud account contained some photos of items stolen from the store.

This is not the first time police have locked up a high-cost crime on immigrants from Chile. Chilean citizens have also been involved in a series of home invasions of professional athletes' homes, with seven people being charged last week in connection with those crimes.

Crimes have also issued warnings in Congress. Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy warns of the growth of “robbery tourism” as law enforcement is tracking down gangs who commit home invasions and jump into the country, and he has been approved by the State Department. We would like to remove the Chilean country from the visa waiver. Program (VWP).

“American communities have experienced an outbreak of 'robbery tourism'. Chilean organized crime rings were able to exploit the VWP loopholes by entering the US without a visa or proper criminal history check,” Roy said at the end of last month.
