4 officers across America gunned down in cold blood in 2 days

Four young law enforcement officers from departments across the country were shot in cold blood, several more shots and deaths, and at least one officer died in about a week.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Virginia Beach Police Department officers Cameron Gilbin and Christopher Reese were paired together for a midnight patrol shift on Friday. They jumped on a police cruiser and left.

Before 11:30pm, they spotted a blue Hyundai Sonata with an expired tag and tried to pull the vehicle. However, the driver, who was later identified as 42-year-old John McCoy III of Virginia Beach, did not cooperate.

York, Pennsylvania

Andrew Duarte, 30, of the West York District Police Department, died in a shootout in York, Pennsylvania, at a hospital about 300 miles north, just hours after the Virginia Beach incident.

At a press conference Saturday afternoon, York County Deputy District Attorney Tim Barker provided detailed information about the suspect and the victim. According to Barker, Ortiz visited someone in the ICU early in the week where he interacted with staff during his period. When he returned Saturday, Barker alleged he targeted ICU workers in particular.

When asked whether Duarte was shot by a suspect or by “friendly fire,” Barker replied that an investigation into the shooting was underway.

The doctor only suffered from surface wounds. The nurses and custodians suffered more severe injuries and had to undergo surgery. They were said to be in stable condition on Saturday afternoon, as were the two injured officers.

Terry, Mississippi

On Sunday evening, less than 48 hours after the Virginia Beach shooting, a Mississippi sheriff's deputy was shot dead and answered a call in Terry, just 15 miles south of Jackson.
