The Florida sheriff said Monday he would work with federal agents to enforce illegal immigration in the state.
At a press conference, members of the Florida Sheriff's Association gathered in Polk County to announce compliance with federal immigration law enforcement. Around Baynews9:
Three programs under this provision allow local governments to assist in immigration enforcement in prisons and on the streets.
This means that deputies and corrections officers can join potential causes arrests, street task forces and issue warrants.
A memorandum of 67 agreements has been formally signed for all of Florida's county jails. This allows staff to issue undocumented immigration warrants and notify the ice when they are arrested and booked.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Guartieri said people would be “deported and not returned to the community to commit more crimes.” Gualtieri recalled that a man who was deported twice to Honduras killed one of his agents in 2022 during a construction incident, highlighting the importance of local governments working with ice agents .
“It's obviously because bad people are preventing them from returning to the streets where the ice needs to use their resources, and we have to help them find these people,” he said. “It's also safer for ice officers to detain these people from prison.”
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the biggest challenge facing authorities is lack of adequate bed space.

“The sheriff or county jail in this state doesn't have the ability to make a negligible difference. We have to create the federal government capacity,” Sheriff Judd said. “That's why we're making this statement today. The federal government knows this. They need to create capacity. We can bring them all the businesses they can handle, and so on.”
Sheriff Judd has illegally told immigrants here in America that they can be deported by self-swath or authorities.
“It's time to leave the country. You can leave yourself or handcuff it,” he said.
