GOP Sen. Mike Lee suggests letting ‘pirates’ take on cartels on the border

Republican Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) proposed Wednesday that Congress and President Trump should be allowed to assume international cartels to protect national security.

Lee It appeared In Fox News' “The Will Cain Show,” he was asked about his plan to ensure that people can deploy but not use the US military.

“Private is what they are called,” he said. “The letters of Marque and Reprisal are approved under Articles 1, 8 and 10 of the Constitution.”

Lee said it was the same clause that gives Congress the power to declare war, which would allow the legislative branch to issue letters with accreditation documents that “essentially … piracy.”

The hosts made it clear to Cain Republicans if it was something that they realistically expect Trump's Congress to sign off.

“Look, that's not happening in centuries,” replied Lee. “So I'm going to make you a kid here and think this is definitely going to pass. What I'm saying is that you should consider it.”

Lee pointed out that there are “immense risks” to deploying US troops to shared borders, and argued that the situation could be unstable if civilians are people who oppose the cartel.

He also said George Washington was a private and private investor.

“This was pretty common at the time of the American Revolution and we have to take that into consideration and pass it on in relation to an international drug cartel,” Lee concluded.
