Matthew Stafford saga could end soon as ‘soft deadline’ approaches

For Matthew Stafford, the following could be a focus:

As rumors are swirling about where he is in 2025, Reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated The “soft deadline” approaches Wednesday on March 14th, the third day of the new league year, caused by the Rams quarterback's $4 million roster bonus. All SPOTRAC.

Stafford's base salary in 2025 was $23 million, and the roster bonus earned him $27 million in cash per year.

March 14th is about two weeks away, but Breer speculates that “this will happen before that.”

Stafford, 37, was at the heart of trade buzz for much of the offseason, even after leading Los Angeles to a split-round playoff berth after losing Los Angeles to the Eagles, the ultimate Super Bowl champions.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback traded for the Rams in early 2021 after 12 seasons in Detroit, threw 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2024 when the Rams finished 10-7, threw 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2024, when they won the NFC West.

Stafford is seeking a new contract at a $50 million annual ballpark, “Good Morning Football” Peter Schrager reported Monday.

He is linked to quarterbacks Needleiders and Giants, the latter who met Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

The Giants finished the season just 3-14, following the release of quarterback Daniel Jones in November.

The Raiders, who were apparently led by minority owner Tom Brady, saw a revolving door in quarterback position in 2024, resulting in a 4-13 record and firing of head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco.

Stafford is widely seen as the biggest quarterback Domino of the offseason, with his final landing potential impact on the robust markets of Sam Darnold (Vikings), Aaron Rodgers (Jets) and Russell Wilson (Stealers).

ESPN's Adam Schefter became just as clear as Wednesday during his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“I think [the Vikings] I'm interested in Sam, but what is it for Sam, and there's another team that's more willing to pay Sam,” Shifter said from the NFL Combine.

“And now we're back at Matthew Stafford because Matthew Stafford is in LA and if he's in LA, the Raiders wouldn't get him. And if the Raiders didn't get him, I think the Raiders would be interested in Sam Darnold, but what if the Raiders got Matthew Stafford, and what happens to Sam Darnold, and one choice. So where can the tentacles of Stafford's situation reach and influence people like Sam Darnold and Aaron Rodgers.”

Darnold enjoyed a career renaissance with the Vikings in 2024, but the Jets have previously confirmed that they will say goodbye to Rodgers two years later.

Wilson has spent the past year in Pittsburgh, but finished the season with a four-game winning streak.
