Democratic honcho abandons Eric Adams, backs Andrew Cuomo for mayor

Influential former Brooklyn Democrat boss Frank Cedio has abandoned Mayor Eric Adams and is supporting the former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, he posted Thursday.

Seddio, Adams' political advisor and former city hall legal partner of Frank Caron, former city hall, said he hasn't seen the mayor he fought to win reelection.

“I love Eric. I supported him for all his races — for the state senator, borough president and mayor,” Cedio said.

“I've been friends with Eric for the last few years, but looking at the situation, there's no way Eric can win.”

Cedio, a medium Democrat, said Cuomo was a clear choice after the switch from Adams, but the former governor has not announced he is still running.

“Andrew is the best of all other candidates. He has the management skills and experience to run the city,” Cedio said.

Cedio was recently approved as a Brooklyn Democrat Commissioner on the city's election committee — his Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club said on Tuesday that he officially supports Cuomo.

He said the other left central candidates running in the Democratic mayoral primary in June are not worthy of major city halls.

“Progressive running is nothing but a hypocrite. Cedio, who was chairman of the Brooklyn Democrats from 2012 to 2020, said:

The 78-year-old Cedio is in close ally with his successor, Brooklyn Democrat leader Rodney Bicotte Hermelin.

Politics also has a long relationship with Cuomo and his father, former Governor Mario Cuomo. He supported Andrew's run for the state attorney general and governor, and Mario ran for the governor and mayor.

He said the city council was swinging too far to the left.

“But I think Andrew can provide leadership to the public whom the city council has to pay attention to,” Cedio said.

Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 after a sexual misconduct charge he denied, is expected to announce the mayor's comeback bid on Sunday.

Seddio predicted that Cuomo would not necessarily run for mayor when a third term Democrat visited Seddio's political club in 2023, but would make a comeback.

Adams is allegedly charged with being charged last September. He is said to have accepted more than $100,000 donations and travel perks to illegal campaigns that he was trying to buy influence while still being a Turkish official and president of the Brooklyn Autonomous Region.

He pleaded not guilty and said he has long maintained his innocence and is seeking re-election despite his lack of popularity in the polls.

The Justice Department moved to dismiss his case after President Trump took office.

However, a federal judge ruled last week that he wanted to hear from an independent lawyer before deciding whether to throw Adams' corruption charges in full.

Adams skipped the mayoral forum on Wednesday, hosted by District Council 37, the city's largest municipal coalition, on defense counsel advice.

Other candidates running in the Democratic primary include Sen. Jessica Ramos and Zellner Miley, city director Brad Lander, state legislative member Zoran Mamdani, former Assemblyman Michael Blake, former city director Scott Stringer and financier Whitney Tilson.

Council Chair Adrienne Adams submitted documents to participate in the city hall competition.

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Swa has been declared the Republican candidate for mayor.
