JD Vance Responds to Pope’s Criticisms at Catholic Prayer Breakfast

Vice President J.D. Vice President Glory to God to help him “turn a new page in Washington, DC,” and responded to Pope Francis' criticism of Trump's administration's immigration policy, explaining how the president's foreign policy “consistent with Christian social education” in the Annual National Catholic Prayer Breakfast (NCPB) explains how the president's foreign policy “consistent with Christian social education.”

While speaking at the 20th annual NCPB in DC on Friday, Vance expressed his humility and thanked God for helping him go from Ohio Senators to the Vice President of the United States in just a few years.

“I came here last year as a very young senator. I didn't know how much life would change,” the vice president told the audience.

“I thank God, but I also appreciate the friendship of the people in this room who helped us get there, because I think we'll be going around a new page in Washington, D.C., so I think we're going to take advantage of the opportunities God has given us,” he cried out to the cheering crowd.

Recognise Pope Francis multiple Negative remarks In Trump's massive deportation plan, Vance said he was “certainly surprised” by criticism, but he said he believes the Pope is “a person who fundamentally cares about Christian flocks under his leadership.”

“And he is someone who cares about the spiritual direction of faith. Every day, I say this because me and my children pray for the Holy Father. We pray for his health and pray for his comfort as he deals with what appears to be a rather serious health crisis,” he said.

Explaining how Trump's foreign policy aligns with Catholic faith, Vance emphasized the administration's efforts for peace and freedom of religion.

“It's one of the most important parts of President Trump's policy, and if you think that President Trump's policies are most consistent with Christian social education and Catholic faith, then more than any president in my life, President Trump pursued a path of peace,” Vance said. “And I think we often ignore the way our foreign policy is either an instrument or a barrier to helping people all over the world practice their faith.”

Cultivate how Christians around the world are being persecuted, i.e. NigeriaVance said, “The Trump administration, whether we are at home with our own citizens or at home around the world, will be the greatest advocates of religious freedom and rights of conscience.”

Vance also emphasized the need to “protect Christian religious freedom” when dealing with conflicts in Europe and the Middle East.

Whether it's Russia or Ukraine or the Middle East, we must, of course, recognize the need for President Trump to bring peace as a policy directed at saving lives and implementing one of Christ's most important commandments.

But we also need to recognize that it has often been the historic Christian community that has faced the brunt of failed American foreign policy over the past 40 years as an effort to protect Christian religious freedom, and that, in my view, is perhaps the most important way that Donald Trump has been a champion of Christian rights around the world.

Speaking about the “surprising” thing that happened to him in November 2024, Vance raised the baptism of his young son as the most exciting event he has experienced – even more than winning the election:

And when I think about the deep, what really matters, there was something truly amazing that happened to me in November 2024. All my friends were there, all my family were there. And of course, I'm talking about when my seven-year-old chose to be baptized by the Christian faith.

Of course, it was amazing to win the election in November 2024, and it was amazing to know that President Trump will once again become president and can accomplish so many good things for the American people.

The Vice President highlighted his interfaith marriage to Second Lady Ushavance and explained how much it would mean to him when his seven-year-old son, Ewan, chose to be baptized by the Catholic Church.

“As many people know, I'm part of an interfaith marriage. My wife, she comes to church with us almost every Sunday, but she's not Catholic,” Vance said. “So the bargain we hit is that we raise our children to Catholics, but let them choose the moment they want to be baptized in the end.”

“If that's a terrible sacrifice, I'll blame the Dominicans because they're the people who came up with this plan,” he joked.
