JD Vance Reveals $15 Million in Medicaid Fraud Involving One Migrant in Maine

Vance Uncovers $15 Million Medicaid Fraud in Maine

During a visit to Bangor on Thursday, Vice President J.D. Vance revealed a significant case of Medicaid fraud, involving a Maine immigrant who allegedly stole $15 million. He emphasized that “Fraud is exactly what happens when you have a government that is not fighting for the American people, but for fraudsters and illegal aliens. And it has to stop.” Vance made these remarks at an event supporting former Governor Paul LePage’s bid for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

Vance described Maine as a “bronze medalist” in fraud, trailing only California and Minnesota. He noted that while LePage previously called attention to these fraud issues, the then-Democratic Attorney General, Janet Mills, refused to take action.

According to reports, one case involved an immigrant who billed the state millions for purported “interpreter services” intended for illegal aliens but never actually provided any such services. “Rakiyah Mohamed was not a particularly upstanding citizen… She provided no services and collected $15 million over five years that went directly into her own pocket,” Vance remarked.

Reports indicated that Rakiyah Mohamed, who worked for Bright Future Healthier You, fraudulently billed Medicaid for millions in non-existent services. She was among four individuals charged in this scheme, all immigrants from Somalia. Company president Abdihamid Hassan and Abdifita Abdi were also implicated. A fourth employee, Asmo Dolu, was suspected of involvement but died in June after pleading not guilty.

In March, Mohamed pleaded guilty to submitting a false tax return. Vance assured that the Trump administration’s scrutiny of fraud in Maine is just the starting point. “I can’t make any promises, but I think if we look closely at Maine, we’ll find hundreds of millions more dollars each month, because Maine is not taking this issue seriously,” he remarked.
