A ju umpire on Friday convicted an Illinois landlord of a 2023 stab wound that claimed the life of six-year-old Palestinian boy Waddy Alfayomi, and seriously injured his mother.

Despite having no previous issues with Shahin and her son, Chuba's wife testified that he retreated and became angry after seeing news reports of Hamas attacks, and asked his family to move, Fox32 reported.
According to the report, Shahin told the Chuba court “You need to die as a Muslim,” he attacked her with a knife.
She locked herself in the bathroom and called 911 and heard her son scream in another room, according to Fox 32.

The 15-minute call was made in court and Shahin said he could hear his son screaming in the background.
Prosecutors said blood and DNA evidence was found in a knife left in the boy's body, according to the report.

D-Bridgeview State Assemblyman Abdelnasser Rashid, the first Palestinian-American in the state legislature, issued a statement describing the incident as “courage.”
“My heart is directed today towards Waddy Alphayoomi's family,” Rashid said. “The ju judge was right to admit that he had committed Joseph Chuba's crimes on all charges, including murder and hate crimes.”
