Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said in an interview that “the future of a free world is ahead of us” in light of a heated White House meeting between President Trump, Vice President Vance and Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky on Friday.
“This is not time for an apology war. There is a life at risk. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the future of Europe, the future of the free world is ahead of us,” says Klobuchar when he thought the Ukrainian president should apologize before and after the controversial, when CNN asked if he would appear on CNN, when Secretary of State Marco Rubio thought he should apologize, and when he asked if he should, I think he should be.
Klobuchar, was part of a bipartisan group. Senators I met With Zelensky time in front of the oval-shaped office flock, he insisted that “it would be a big mistake to go through Ukraine and go to surrender and these negotiations instead of strength.”
“One of the most annoying things for me was when Vice President Vance stated today, he accused President Zelensky of not thanking America,” the Minnesota Senator said in CNN's “source.”
“And as you've shown repeatedly on your show recently, I've heard President Zelensky thank Republicans and thanked them over and over again at Democrats, private meetings, public events,” she added.
Klobuchar is one of many Democrats who denounced Trump and Vance on Friday's spat with Zelensky, and it appeared to be strained by Washington-Kiev relations.
The bilateral meeting was surprised when Vance suggested that Trump would create a peace deal to end the three-year war through diplomacy. Zelensky questioned the point with Putin's actions that negate the previous ceasefire.
Vance added that Zelensky was “disrespectful” in discussing the premises in front of the media and thanked the support provided to Ukraine, adding that Kiev's head should “be grateful to the president for trying to end his conflict.”
Zelensky said Washington does not directly feel the significance of the conflict due to its distance from Eastern Europe.
“You don't have a card right now. Trump told the Ukrainian president, “You're gambling with millions of people, you're gambling with World War II.
Trump wrote after the meeting that Zelensky was not ready for a peace deal to end the devastating war, and that the Ukrainian president could return to Washington “when he is ready for peace.”
Zelensky said hours after Fox News after a heated discussion in the oval office, he did not apologise and said the meetup ended badly for both sides.
Klobuchar said Friday night she spoke with a Republican senator who is interested in working on repairing relationships between Kiev and Washington.
“President Zelensky all said they need to make sure the agreement is solid, or they need to make sure Vladimir Putin violates it, as he's had in the past,” Minnesota Democrats said.
Crossing the Atlantic, the majority of European leaders stood behind Zelensky after he met with Trump.
The Minnesota Senator said three things are important to correct Ukraine-US relations. The first thing was supposed to be on Friday, but will sign a mineral agreement cancelled after the fallout.
Second, it will stand strong with Washington's allies, and the final element of “returning it back on track” is “remembering what is at risk here for American leaders around the world, and everything is on the table.”
“I think we should move forward with our allies in America. I hope tomorrow we can start resetting this again, rather than splitting everyone,” she said on CNN.
