The days of Devo Samuel in San Francisco are over.
The 49ers agreed to trade the star wide receiver for the commander in exchange for the fifth draft pick, according to multiple reports.
ESPN reported that the commander will pay Samuel a $17.55 million salary this season, the final salary on his current contract.
The outlet added that San Francisco is on Hook at $31,550,012 with money that died at the 2025 salary cap.
Samuel revealed in the early February that he had requested trade.
“It was a tough conversation [head coach Kyle Shanahan] Because of the relationship we have,” Samuel told ESPN last month. “But I have to do the best. I'm grateful for the Niners' opportunity to give me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but now I think it's best to find another team.”
General Manager John Lynch said this week at the NFL Combine that he continues to seek trade partners from Samuel, who first requested trade in 2022 before signing a three-year extension.
“We're at least making him visible,” Lynch told reporters. “We have a good relationship with Deebo. He's called for a fresh start and I think we're going to respect that. I don't like seeing great players leave, and he's a great player.”
Samuel, 29, is now getting his hopes.
In Washington, he plays with two Pro Bowl wideout Terry McClaurin.
Athletic reported that the two teams discussed defensive tackle Jonathan Allen as part of a potential deal, but ultimately the Washington lineman was not included in the deal.
Samuel, the 2021 All-Pro, spent a down year in 2024 by his standards.
His 806 yards from Scrimmage marked the second-lowest total of his career as the 49ers, who finished last in NFC West.
At his best, Samuel is one of the most electric players in football.
He is a weapon in both passing and rushing games, combining 11.1 yards per scrimmage touch with 42 scores in his career, matching the air and the ground.
